Official Rules
For your reference, here are the official rules of the Ontario Soccer Empire INDOOR seasons. Click here for our outdoor rules.
- No player shall be allowed to play without a proper uniform, shin-guards, and indoor soccer shoes (no running shoes allowed). Any player that goes on the field with an improper uniform will be given a blue card on the first offence.
- A game will have two 25-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime. Any game starting late will have its game time reduced so that the game still ends on time (at 5 minutes to the hour).
- Adult players must play at least 6 games to be eligible to play in the playoffs.
- In all divisions, the minimum number of players required for a game is 3 + Goalie. In the event that this number cannot be fielded within 5 minutes of the scheduled start, that team shall forfeit the game, and the score will be recorded as 3-0.
-
Maximum number of players on the field at one time is as follows:
-
Under 9: 6 + Goalie
-
Under 12: 6 + Goalie
-
Under 15: 6 + Goalie
-
Under 18: 6 + Goalie
-
Adult: 5 + Goalie
-
- Those who sign with the league to play as a complete team may not use any players other than those signed up at registration. Using illegal players in a game will result in the forfeit of the game in question and a fine of $200.00 payable to the league.
- Substitution can occur on the fly at any time during a game, but there can be no substitutions on penalty shots (including the Goalie).
-
The ball is considered out of bounds when:
-
it hits the roof;
-
it goes into or over the bleachers;
-
it goes behind the net;
-
it hits the wall behind the net in the marked area between the goal posts and the roof.
-
- No one can score before the midfield and there is no direct scoring from any free kick; the ball must touch another player to be counted as a goal. All kicks are indirect except penalty shots.
- No player shall touch the Goalie intentionally and must stay 3 feet away when it is a dead ball (no screening).
- The Goalie can't release the ball and pick it back up before any other player touches it.
-
In the event of a tie at the end of a regular season game, the tie-breaking formula will be as follows:
-
least goals scored against;
-
goal differential (goals scored minus goals against).
-
- In the event of a tie in any playoff game, one sudden-death overtime of 5 minutes will be played. If still tied at the end of overtime, a penalty shootout will take place with 3 kicks per team taken by the players who were just on the field. If still tied, 1 penalty kick per team will be taken by the remaining players until a winner is determined (after an equal number of kicks occur).
- Points for a game are awarded as follows: win - 3 points, tie - 1 point, loss - 0 points.
- Division standings are determined by the number of points earned from most to least.
-
No slide tackling or sliding is allowed and No rough play and might this lead to the following penalties:
-
first offence: blue card - 2 minute penalty
-
second offence: yellow card - 5 minute penalty ($5.00 fine for adults only)
-
- A second yellow card in the same game or a red card results in an immediate ejection from the current game and a suspension from the next game, as well as a 5 minute penalty for the team ($20.00 fine for adults only).
- Any assessed fine is to be paid before a player is allowed to play again.
- Any player that gets two red cards may face expulsion from the league.
- Fighting will not be tolerated and any player, coach, or parent that causes trouble will be expelled from the league.
